POI Builder FAQ

  • What do I need to be able to use POI Builder?
  • You need a high-speed Internet connection, a PC with a Microsoft Operating System, and a personal GPS device.
  • What Operating Systems does POI Builder Support?
  • POI Builder was built and tested on Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista.  POI Builder should work on other Microsoft Windows Operating Systems that support the .NET framework.
  • How does your software licensing work?
  • Trip-G Software uses a software licensing product that limits the use of POI Builder to a single computer with a single simultaneous user.  You must send a code to us in order to have your software validated
  • Most small software companies simply rely on the honor system.  Why do you require activation?
  • Trip-G Software is trying to work from a business model that allows us to keep software we develop reasonably priced while protecting our intellectual property.  By choosing this model we are pricing our software well under the typical consumer software model because we can be reasonably sure that every consumer running our software has a license to do so.
  • How long does it take to get my software licensed after I make the purchase?
  • We strive to respond to licensing requests within four hours.  This is true 7 days a week 365 days a year.  There are occasions when we have taken as much as 24 hours to respond.  Trip-G Software is currently developing Internet Self-Registration which will alleviate these rare issues.
  • Does POI Builder build POI's for any vendor?
  • The first release of POI Builder only supports Starbucks stores.  Our second release will support multiple vendors in a plug-in type fashion.  This is necessary because every vendor implements their store locator service just a little bit different.  The plug-in will provide you with the ability to collect POI data for various vendors.  If there is any vendor you are particularly interested in please feel free to let us know so that we can work on those vendors with the highest consumer interest first.
  • What is the Microsoft .NET Framework?
  • The Microsoft .NET Framework is the Microsoft integrated services strategy to connect information, people, systems, and devices through software. Integrated across the Microsoft platform, Microsoft .NET technology provides the ability to quickly build, deploy, manage, and use connected, security-enhanced solutions with integrated deployment services. Microsoft .NET-connected solutions enable businesses to integrate their systems more rapidly and in a more agile manner and help them realize the promise of information anytime, anywhere, on any device.  The Microsoft .NET Framework is a general-purpose software development platform, similar to Java. At its core is a virtual machine that turns intermediate language (IL) into machine code. High-level language compilers for C#, VB.NET and C++ are provided to turn source code into IL. C# is a new programming language, vsimilar to Java. An extensive class library is included, featuring all the functionality one might expect from a contemporary development platform - Windows GUI development (Windows Forms), database access (ADO.NET), Web development (ASP.NET), Web services, XML, and so on.
  • Why does POI Builder need the Microsoft .NET Framework to install?
  • The Microsoft .NET Framework supplies the underlying architecture upon which POI Builder is built. Our toolbars and integration components all require the Microsoft .NET Framework to function properly. POI Builder will not install without an appropriate version of the Microsoft .NET Framework installed on the host computer.
  • Can different versions of the Microsoft .NET Framework exist on the same machine?
  • Yes, different versions of the Microsoft .NET Framework can exist on the same machine.
  • How can I tell if Microsoft .NET Framework is installed on my computer?
  • Start by checking the Add/Remove Programs dialog in the Windows Control Panel. Look for Microsoft .NET Framework followed by a version number. If you have Windows Vista installed, you also have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.
  • What if I try to install POI Builder and the right version of Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed?
  • The correct version of Microsoft .NET Framework for your version of POI Builder is automatically installed from the Microsoft website.
